About Long Island Tick Guide
Built by a Long Island dad. Made for local families.
Hi, I’m a Long Island dad.
I grew up spending time outdoors, from the beaches on Fire Island to backyards and parks across the Island. Ticks were always part of the landscape, but like most people, I didn’t think much about them.
I even remember doing a middle school science project on Lyme disease and living next door to an infectious disease doctor who specialized in it. At the time, it was just background noise.
That changed when a family member was diagnosed with early-stage Lyme disease.
We were lucky it was caught in time. A lot of people aren’t.
Since then, I’ve paid a lot more attention (maybe too much).
Like most parents, I’ve had those moments where you find a tick on your child and your stomach drops.
You start searching, trying to figure out what it is, what it means, and what to do next. Most of what you find is either too vague, too technical, or just not useful in the moment you need it.
What surprised me along the way is how much confusion and mixed information is out there, and how hard it can be to get clear, practical answers quickly.
I spent a lot of time learning what actually matters, what doesn’t, and how to handle these situations more calmly and confidently.
This site is my attempt to share that.
It’s a place where you can:
Understand what you’re dealing with
Get clear, practical guidance
Know what to do when the panic sets in
Without wading through medical jargon or worst-case-scenario rabbit holes.
No hype. No scare tactics. Just honest information from someone who’s been there.
